"They say time heals all wounds... That's a big lie. Let me tell you what time really does: Time only reveals secrets."
INTRODUCTION: WE DEFEATED DEATH, WHAT ABOUT OUR SOUL?
(With Kling Digital's deep, cinematic, atmospheric narrative that touches the darkest corners of the mind...)
Close your eyes for a moment and think about that most ancient dream we have been chasing since the beginning of human history: That ultimate victory that Gilgamesh engraved on tablets, alchemists sought in the philosopher's stone, kings buried under the pyramids... Immortality.
What if I told you that one day this dream actually became a reality? What if I told you that we stopped the biological aging of cells, broke the shackles of biology, and managed to transfer our minds into new bodies like wine poured from one glass to another?
Sounds like a tremendous salvation, right? No more cold hospital corridors, no more tears shed at the graves of our loved ones, no more laments for the loss of youth...
But there is an immutable law of the universe and nature: Nothing comes from nothing and no gift is given for free.
Nobody Wants to Die, developed by the Polish independent studio Critical Hit Games and released in 2024 with the dazzling technology of Unreal Engine 5, exactly addresses this question mark and throws us into the dystopian New York of 2329. We are not faced with an ordinary science fiction action; What we have before us is a huge existential theater that blends the rainy melancholy of Blade Runner, the cyber-body transfer philosophy of Altered Carbon, the fascinating Art-Deco aesthetics of BioShock and the smoke-noir detective work of the 1940s.
In this text; We will walk step by step through the streets of 2329 New York, where skyscrapers pierce the clouds, daylight never falls on the streets, and death has become a luxury rather than an option. We will follow the cracks in detective James Karra's mind from beginning to end, reconstruct each murder scene by bending time backwards, and unravel in detail which doors of fate the choices made lead us to and how human consciousness goes crazy in the face of eternity.
EPISODE 1: 2329 NEW YORK AND THE GEARS OF THE SYSTEM: WHAT IS THIS GAME?
To understand a story, you must first set the scene. When the calendars show the year 2329 in the world of Nobody Wants to Die, our planet has long ceased to be the Earth we know. Nature has been completely destroyed, the atmosphere is sealed with poisonous acid rain and a gray smog. So much so that, every time you enter your home from outside, you have to purify your body with caustic chemicals in special decontamination cabins. Seeing a real tree, touching a handful of soil, or breathing in the scent of a fresh cherry blossom is a divine privilege that only trillion-dollar oligarchs have access to.
Ichorite and Consciousness Transfer
In the 24th century, scientists discovered a bio-technological liquid/alloy called Ichorite that can encode the neuronal map of the human brain, memories, personality and self. This substance is integrated into the spinal cord and brainstem from the back of the neck. When a body grows old, becomes ill, or receives a fatal blow; As long as the Ichorite within remains intact, the person's consciousness is removed and injected into an empty body ("sheath" or "carrier"). Congratulations, you are now theoretically immortal.
But capitalism has put a price tag on even immortality.
Body Subscription and Memory Bank (The Memory Bank)

In this world, every citizen who turns 21 is obliged to pay a regular monthly "Body Tax / Subscription Fee" to the state and elite-controlled funds in order to be able to use his own body. You heard right: Even the body you were born with does not belong to you; You rent it from the system.
What happens if you can't pay your bill?
The "Mortality Department" of the police is at your door. Your body is confiscated. Your young and healthy meat is sold at auctions to the rich old bidders. So what happens to your consciousness? Your ichorite is mined and locked in massive digital server graveyards called Memory Banks.
Official state propaganda markets the Memory Bank as "a sweet hibernation, a peaceful wait until you repay your debt." However, the reality is completely different: It is a digital purgatory where consciousness remains open, you cannot feel or hear anything, and you scream all alone in an endless pitch darkness. The endless nightmare of souls who cannot have a body...
Synthetic Food Monopoly: "Demer" Company and Disappearing Nature
In the New York of 2329, real agriculture and animal husbandry are completely history. Every bite of food, every drop of protein and drink in the city is chemically synthesized by the giant monopoly company Demer.
It is not for nothing that Detective James Karra utters the famous line angrily every time he sees a Demer logo or product throughout the game: "Fucking Demer..." (Fucking Demer...). This hatred is not just a complaint about bad taste; It is a symbolic indicator that humanity is disconnected from nature, that tasteless gray gelatin replaces a real apple or fresh bread, and that companies have mortgaged people's stomachs.
Retro-Futurism and Art-Deco Aesthetics

What makes the game's world so fascinating is that it blends future technology with the aesthetics of the 1920s and 1930s. There are flying cars floating in the sky between hundreds of storey skyscrapers (Starscrapers); However, these cars feature wood-trimmed steering wheels, analog gauges, and whiskey glasses. Huge holograms shine atop huge buildings, but the messages are carried by pneumatic air conduits (vacuum tubes) running through the walls. People can transmit their minds, but the music is melancholy jazz tunes crackling from the record players. And in the midst of all these contrasts, the Statue of Liberty is buried in the deepest slums, forgotten in rust and mud; It's like a silent statue of what New York has lost of human rights and justice.
CHAPTER 2: PLAYERS ON STAGE: CRACKS IN THE SOUL AND IDENTITIES FOR HIRE
A film noir cannot breathe without its flawed characters. Nobody Wants to Die focuses on the psychological conflict of a handful of wounded souls who are deeply connected to each other, rather than a large cast.
1. Detective James Karra and the Trauma of the "Four Deaths"

The main character of our story. A man who was once a professional baseball star, but was thrown into detective work by the blows of life. On paper, James Karra appears to be a charismatic and powerful man in his mid-30s. But in reality, James is over 120 years old and is currently on his fourth body.
Let's stop here and take a deep breath: While the human brain and psychology are not ready to experience even a single death; James Karra died in pain 4 times and carries the agonizing memory of each death in his memory.
- His first body was exhausted from old age and heart failure.
- His second body was riddled with bullets in a street conflict.
-His third body was recently crushed to pieces in a suspicious flying car crash.
This situation has created in him a deep Complex Phantom PTSD and severe Sensory Rejection. With his new body, his hands are shaking, his sense of smell is confused (he experiences strange cognitive shifts, such as smelling chocolate while smelling tobacco), and to keep from going crazy, he swallows handfuls of Ambrosia (mental stabilizer pills) and pours smuggled whiskey on himself.
Moreover, James is a prisoner of incurable grief. His wife, Rachel Karra, committed suicide because she could no longer bear this immortality. Because Rachel has realized that life, love and sacrifice have lost all meaning in a world where there is no death. James, on the other hand, constantly hears Rachel's voice in the depths of his mind, talks to her, and every time he closes his eyes, he takes refuge in that dream where he is swimming towards her on a sunny beach.
2. Sara Green: A Communications Officer and a Sad Truth
The voice on James' radio, his operational supporter and guardian angel: Sara Green.
Sara guides James through the game through the headset in his ear, scanning databases, analyzing clues, and becoming the mental anchor that keeps James from running amok. There is a sarcastic but deep bond of friendship between the two, reminiscent of a Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall movie.
However, the truth we learn later in the story about Sara hits us like a slap in the face with the brutality of the world of 2329: Sara Green is only 29 years old.
But when you come face to face with her, you see the body of an old and disabled woman, hunched over, having difficulty breathing, and her bones aching. Why? Because Sara rented her young, beautiful and perfect body to a rich client in order to pay off her accumulated debts and ease the burden on her family. She is stuck in this ragged, painful old woman's body. Living knowing that your youth is worn by others like a garment... This is the hell that the play portrays.
3. Edward Green and Dmitry Kovalev
The elite at the top of the city. Edward Green is one of the biggest political figures behind the New York Police Department, one of the founders of the city, and Sara's own father. Dimitri Kovalev, on the other hand, is an oligarch who owns the luxurious "Icarus Bar" where the elite gather and holds billions of loans. They represent the elite who buy the body they want, live above the law, and turn immortality into a toy for their own personal pleasure.
4. Salma: Innocent Victim of the Conspiracy
Salma is a young escort/companion who works in high society parties and secret clubs and attracts attention with her beauty and elegance. However, he witnessed the dirty secrets of the elite too closely and was used as a physical pawn in the false "serial killer" fiction of Edward Green and Dimitri Kovalev. His consciousness and body were taken hostage and he became a scapegoat on whom the events at the scene of the murder would be blamed.
CHAPTER 3: DETECTIVE'S WEAPONS: TECHNOLOGY THAT WEAVERS TIME

Nobody Wants to Die is not a traditional skirmish game. You don't shoot enemies here; Here you examine the hole made in the air by the bullet, the gunpowder gas coming out of the barrel, and the backward flow of time. The detective mechanics offered by the game form the backbone of storytelling:
- The Reconstructor

(Timebender / Reconstruction Bracelet): This device, attached to James' left wrist, simulates the moment of the event second by second by reading the quantum and electromagnetic residues in the environment. You can rewind time like a tape. Did a glass fall on the floor and break? With Reconstructor, you rewind time, see the angle of the glass falling in the air, follow the trajectory of the bullet hitting the glass and reach the exact point where the trigger was pulled.
- UV Lamp (Ultraviolet Light): Reveals chemical traces, blood spatters, Ichorite leaks and footprints that have been tried to be erased, which cannot be seen with the naked eye.
- X-Ray Scanner:

He scans for hidden cables behind walls, secret passages under floors, broken bones in victims' bodies, and bullets lodged in internal organs.
- Evidence Board: Huge holographic deduction matrix projected onto the floor of James' apartment. You connect the photos, audio recordings, toxicology reports, and suspect profiles you've collected with logical threads. "How did the victim die?", "Where did the killer get in?", "What was the real motive?" By answering the questions, you unravel the conspiracy piece by piece.
CHAPTER 4: STORYTELLING FROM BEGINNING TO FINISH: ON THE TRAIL OF MURDERS AND BETRAYAL
Now sit back. We land on that acid-scented night of the year 2329, on the streets of Times Square hanging in the sky.
Introduction: Awakening from a Dream (Chapter 1: Times Square)

The play begins in a peaceful, black-and-white outdoor cinema. James Karra sits next to his wife Rachel in a vintage car. As the rain hits the car window, Rachel smiles at him and they joke about the old days. James is in a peace he hasn't experienced in a long time.
But suddenly the image flickers. Rachel's face breaks into pixels and disappears. As the camera zooms back, we find ourselves in the cockpit of a police car flying at an altitude of hundreds of meters, among the skyscrapers of 2329 New York. There is no Rachel. Peace is an illusion.
(Here James interacts with 7 objects in the cockpit: the radio headset in the dashboard, the Ambrosia stabilizer pills, the heavy revolver gun next to the seat, the moonshine bottle in the center console, the newspaper in the passenger seat, the brochure in the door pocket, and the cute baseball figure on the steering wheel).
Police Chief Steiner roars at James over the radio. An "urgent and sensitive" situation has occurred at the mansion of Edward Green, one of the most powerful figures in the city. Steiner knows that James is still in convalescence and that his mental stability is hanging by a thread; However, this case will not be recorded in official records and is a "private" cover-up operation. James has been assigned a new communications officer: Sara Green.
The Garden in the Sky and the Hanging Sacrifice (Chapter 2: Green Tower)
James lands his flying car at the luxury penthouse on the top floor of the Green Tower. This is a unique greenhouse in the world, protected by an artificial air conditioning dome, even above the clouds. In fact, in the middle of the hall, the last surviving real cherry tree on earth is exhibited.
And a corpse is hanging from the thick branch of that cherry tree: Edward Green.
At first glance, the scene looks like a perfect suicide. The richest man in the city hanged himself with a rope around his neck. But James Karra is an experienced wolf; No suicide smells this clean. When we turn on the Reconstructor and UV light, terrifying details emerge:
- Edward Green was stabbed in the back before being hanged from a tree!
- Traces of blood and Ichorite on the ground indicate that the victim was dragged to the greenhouse.
- Secret documents on the table whisper that Green has been working on a huge liquidation and tax conspiracy lately. (Here the player makes a choice between burning the documents or leaving them; this choice reflects James' conscientious tone).
- When he smells an antique jar in the room, he describes the smell to Sara: Feeling the tobacco smell like chocolate is the first clue of sensory rejection syndrome.
Even stranger, Green's Ichorite is out of place. The killer did not just kill the body, he completely destroyed Green's consciousness; This means "Final Death" in the system's jargon. When we rewind time with Reconstructor and scan behind the wall with X-Ray, we discover a hydraulic elevator hidden in the floor of the greenhouse. This elevator goes deep into the tower, to a dark floor not included in the official architectural plans.
The Red Room of Hell (Chapter 2 & 7: The Redroom)
When the elevator descends, James finds himself in a luxurious, velvet-lined, secret underground club filled with champagne flutes and expensive cigars: The Redroom.
This is a private sanctuary where New York's elite carouse and carry out their perverted sexual fantasies and drug parties in secret from the public.
But tonight, the Red Room has turned into a slaughterhouse.
When we step inside, we encounter a scene that gives us goosebumps. The city's leading judges, senators and company bosses were shot to death on sofas, tables and bar counters. When we run Reconstructor, one of the most cinematic scenes in gaming history begins: Time flows backwards in slow motion. Bullets flying out of barrels return to their casings, glass shards from exploding champagne bottles coalesce, drops of blood on the ground are drawn back into the wounds of the victims.
When we examine the timeline step by step, we see that there is only one person who committed the massacre: A mysterious figure with a strange mask on his face, acting professionally. Moreover, the stab wound on Edward Green's back was taken during the brawl that took place in this room!
James is faced with the option of sealing a vital terminal at the scene. He may lock the doors forever to conceal the massacre in the Redroom or prevent the resurrection of the system's elite. After collecting the evidence, James returns to his apartment.
The Shrine of Loneliness and Decay (Chapter 3 & 6: James’ Apartment)

James's apartment perfectly reflects the misery of the future. The apartment is a makeshift place in the middle of a 500-story concrete jungle, connected to a shared ventilation and water system. The artificial intelligence system in the house, Hestia, monitors James' every step, checking his heartbeat and Ichorite synchronization.
Here we witness the most humane and tragicomic moments of the play:
-When James enters the decontamination chamber, he engages in an imaginary boxing match from behind the wall with his neighbor next door; They cheer each other up by shouting left hook and uppercut combinations ("The Game" achievement).
- Once the bath is over, James saves the broken miniature terrarium tree in the kitchen and replaces it ("Ray of Light").
- When he sits down at the piano in the living room, the image of his wife Rachel appears. James downs his glass of whiskey, swallows his pills, and sets up the holographic Evidence Board 1 on the floor of the living room.
Sara connects via radio. Together they combine the evidence:
- Victim: Edward Green.
- Cause of Death: Hanging and poisoning.
- The real hit: Ichorite was destroyed.
- Signature of the Killer: A serial killer is on the scene, hunting the city's elite one by one. The agency wants to cover this as a suicide, but there is a monster.
At this moment, an uninvited guest infiltrates James' radio frequency. A muffled, mechanical and whispering voice: The Stranger.
The killer mocks James: "You are their dog, James. You are the dead guard of a rotten empire. But I am purifying this city. Let's see if you can stop the next victim."
Icarus Bar and Illegal Whiskey (Chapter 4 & 5: Icarus Bar & Streets)
The clues left by the Stranger lead James to the city's most magnificent entertainment venue: Icarus Bar.
This is the residence of oligarch Dmitry Kovalev. When we arrive at the venue, we immediately feel the tension of the atmosphere. Infiltrating Kovalev's private office, James solves a new murder attempt with the Reconstructor. Kovalev was poisoned and his secret safe in his office was opened.
When we examine the safe, the player faces a symbolic choice: to steal or leave the 30-year-old real Scotch whiskey in the safe. (Buying this whiskey and drinking it in the car reinforces James' nihilist persona). The documents found in the safe increase the size of the conspiracy: A secret project codenamed "Ouroboros" (The snake that bites its own tail) is being carried out among the city's elite. This project was designed to cover up a fatal flaw in Ichorite transfer!
When James leaves the bar and gets into his car, we witness the people raising the flag of rebellion on the streets of New York. Hundreds of meters below, in the streets, protesters throw leaflets into the sky: "GIVE BACK OUR BODIES!" (Give Back Our Bodies!). People are in the streets against the sale of the bodies of their loved ones to the rich and the slavery of the Memory Bank.
James catches one of the flyers in the air ("You've Got Mail"*). His eyes darken, the silhouette of Rachel in his mind calls to him again. James faints.
The Swamp and Sara's Secret (Chapter 8: The Slum)
The investigation's trail takes James down to the very bottom of New York, down to earth level. This is the Slum (Slum) region where the sun never rises, poisonous waters flow, and where those excluded from the system and those who cannot pay their physical debts take shelter. The huge torch of the destroyed, rotten Statue of Liberty lies like a pile of garbage in the middle of this swamp.
While James is tracking the killer, he reaches the safe house where Sara is hiding. And that's when the heartbreaking scene we mentioned before happens. When James opens the door, he sees a trembling 80-year-old woman speaking with a young woman's voice. Sara notices the terror in James' eyes:
"Don't look at that, James... Yes, this is me. I am 29 years old, but my spine is calcified in seventy places. My young body is currently carrying the soul of a billionaire woman in a cocktail party on Park Avenue. And I am rotting in this piece of meat."
This encounter makes the bond between James and Sara unbreakable. It's no longer just about solving a murder; The point is to expose this inhumane system. On the makeshift board in Sara's house, the second Evidence Board dissolves and a new name is revealed: Salma.
The Old Museum and the Great Crossroads (Chapter 9: Old Museum)
Clues lead the duo to the abandoned Old Museum, full of ancient ruins. This is where they found the trace of the mysterious woman named Salma. In the dark corridors of the museum, there are statues, forgotten pieces of history and eerie voice recordings left by the killer.
(In the museum, the player solves the hidden Art-Deco chicken statue puzzle called "Chicken of Justice" by lighting the lamps in the correct order and opening the curtain).
But the real importance of the museum is that the MOST CRITICAL CHOICE THAT DETERMINED THE FATE OF the story and the play was made here.
After Sara and James solve the third Evidence Board, they put all the data on the table. Sara looks into James' eyes and asks:
"James, we put all the pieces together. Tell me... Who is the real mastermind behind all these murders, the Redroom massacre and the web of conspiracy?"
You will be presented with two options:
- "The murderer is behind it all".
- "Green was behind it all".
[!CRITICAL]
THE BIGGEST TURNING POINT OF THE GAME:
If you say "There is a murderer behind everything" here, James surrenders to the illusion. He cannot accept his mental collapse and the game imprisons you IRREVERSIBLY TO A BAD END.
However, if you say "Green was behind everything", James opens the smoke screen. He realizes that Edward Green and Dimitri Kovalev are not actually victims, but architects who planned everything. This choice is the ONLY AND MANDATORY KEY TO REACHING A GOOD ENDING in the finale.
Train Wreck and the Final Plain (Chapter 10: Train Crash Site)
Taking one step closer to the truth, James goes to the accident scene where a luxury magnetic train (Maglev) traveling on New York's sky rails crashed into a huge skyscraper as a result of sabotage. The wreckage is in flames.
James recreates the moment of explosion with Reconstructor. He finds out that Salma was kidnapped from this train and that the Stranger took her to the highest point of the city, to an artificial oasis built in the sky: Central Park.
EPISODE 5: THE BIG BREAK: CENTRAL PARK AND THE MASK OF TRUTH
And here we come to the place where the clarion calls... The artificial Central Park floating above the clouds, at the highest altitude of the year 2329. This is a fake paradise with holographic trees and artificial streams, built by the rich to satisfy their longing for nature.
Striking Truth: Who is the Stranger Actually?
Gunshots echo as James moves through the fog and artificial trees. He takes cover behind a rock. Ahead, there is a silhouette waiting with a gun in her hand: Salma. And that familiar, muffled voice speaking behind her: The Stranger.
James draws his revolver. He starts talking to the stranger over the radio and the howling of the wind. At this point, all the pieces of the Nobody Wants to Die story fall into place and a lightning strikes in the player's mind:
1. The Truth: There Is No External Serial Killer!
No one killed Edward Green. No one poisoned Dmitri Kovalev. A mysterious ghost did not massacre the elites in Redroom. All this brutality is a huge suicide and disclosure plan jointly established by Edward Green and Dimitri Kovalev!
So why? Why did they kill their own friends and commit suicide?
Because they have discovered the terrible truth hidden about Ichorite technology: The human brain and the human soul are not designed for immortality.
Every consciousness that lives for more than a hundred years and changes dozens of bodies inevitably suffers from an irreversible mental illness called Transfer Psychosis (Ichorite Delirium). The mind is fragmenting, memories are intertwined, personality splits occur, and the human being is slowly turning into a wild, uncontrolled monster. Green and Kovalev saw that this immortality system they created did not save humanity, but only eternalized the madness of the rich. Knowing that they could not overthrow the system from the outside, they framed their own deaths as a sensational "serial killer" case and sent the agency's most stubborn detective, James Karra, as bait to reveal the truth.
2. Truth: Whose Voice is The Stranger?
So who is that Stranger with whom James talks throughout the play, who gives him orders and makes fun of him?
The answer is chilling: The Stranger is James Karra's own fragmented mind.
James, a man who has spent 120 years in his fourth body, is in the final stages of the same mental decay. The accumulated trauma of four different deaths, the suicide of his wife Rachel, alcohol addiction and Ichorite incompatibility have created a second personality within him. James mistook the whispers of his own subconscious for the voice of an external killer.
EPISODE 6: ANATOMY OF FINALS AND ELECTIONS: TWO FATES, ONE SALVATION
While you wait in the trenches in Central Park, the choices you make and your final dialogue moves bring down the final act of the game.

GOOD FINAL BAD FINAL BAD FINAL
(End of Deadly Dreams) (Anguish) (Anguish)
"Eternal Peace and Death" "Memory Bank Hell" "Condemned to Darkness"
OPTION A: BAD ENDING – “Anguish” (Return to Darkness)
How to Trigger?
- If you said "The murderer is behind it all" in Episode 9, you will be locked into this ending no matter what you do in the finale.
- Or even if you make the right choice in Episode 9, this ending will happen if you act skeptical and choose to shoot at Salma or the Stranger during the confrontation in Central Park (engage in a QTE shootout).
What Happens?
James gives in to his inner paranoia. He draws his gun and presses the trigger. A fight breaks out and bullets fire. Salma is shot, but James also receives a fatal wound in the chest.
Rain washes over James' face as he collapses to the ground covered in blood. The agency's cleaning teams and police drones land on the scene. James' body is dying. But a police officer who serves the system cannot just be allowed to die!
Paramedics cut James' neck and remove the Ichorite tube. The screen goes dark. And then that terrifying scene begins:
James' consciousness is loaded into the biggest nightmare he has avoided, the Memory Bank.
Pitch darkness... There is no sound, no sense of touch, no perception of time. Only James' consciousness remains suspended in the darkness, awake but paralyzed. He will never be able to reach his wife, Rachel. He cannot die. He cannot escape. He is lost among the screams of his own memories in a digital hell that will last forever.
OPTION B: GOOD END – "End of Deadly Dreams"
How to Trigger?
- 1. Step: When talking to Sara after the Evidence Board in Chapter 9 (Old Museum), the "Green was behind it all" option should definitely be selected.
- 2. Step: In talking to the Stranger while in the trenches in Chapter 11 (Central Park), dialogues that acknowledge the truth must be chosen step by step:
- "Salma is innocent let her go." (Salma is innocent, leave her alone). -> [Approach]
- "and you're better huh?" (And you're better, huh?)
- "Thanks to her you know about the crimes?" (Is it because of him that you learned about the murders?) -> [Approach]
- "Justice is my thing".
- "How long have you been watching me?" (How long have you been watching me?) -> [Approach]
- "What the fuck is going on?" (What's going on here?)
- "Are you on his side?" (Are you on his side?)
- "What did Green say about Ouroboros?" (What did Green say about Ouroboros?)
- 3. Step (Final Decision): The [Throw your weapon] option that appears on the screen must be selected.
What Happens?
James takes a deep breath. He looks at the heavy revolver in his hand. He realizes that this weapon has not brought justice to anyone for decades, but has only greased the wheels of the system. He throws the gun on the ground.
James is no longer afraid of the Stranger; because he realized that the other person was his own madness and that the Ouroboros (serpent) should stop swallowing its own tail. He releases Salma.
James walks towards the railings at the edge of the skyscraper and artificial Central Park. Below, beneath the clouds, lie the neon lights, flying cars and false immortality of New York 2329. James feels the cracks in his mind open wide; In a few days, his consciousness will disappear completely and he will turn into a monster. He will not allow himself to be imprisoned in the Memory Bank or steal the body of another innocent.
James straightens his jacket. He climbs over the railings. And he throws himself into the bottomless void of New York, into the arms of acid rain and gravity.
As the body falls from kilometers high, its Ichorite disintegrates. Police teams will never be able to save his brain. James rejected the false immortality imposed on him by the system and chose real death and human dignity.
The screen is illuminated with pure white light.
We find ourselves in that dream again, on a sunny and clear beach. Waves are hitting the shore. The sea is deep blue. Standing ahead in the water is Rachel, smiling at him. James runs towards the sea, swims and takes Rachel's extended hand.
Beyond time, in that place where pain and technology cannot pollute... Detective James Karra has finally found peace.
Post-Credits Surprise: One Missed Call
When the game ends, the credits begin to roll. However, if you leave the game and continue listening, a final voice recording from James' answering machine will play. This is Sara Green's voice.
Sara explains that she left the organization after James' suicide and decided to fight against this rotten order by following the path opened by James. There is both deep sadness and endless gratitude to James in his voice. Sara says James doesn't just solve a case; He says that he reminds those who risk death and live what it means to be human.
CHAPTER 7: ALL CHOICES IN THE GAME AND THEIR EFFECTS: MORTON'S FORK ILLUSION
Nobody Wants to Die frequently gives the player a warning "This choice will have consequences in the future". However, if you are expecting dozens of different branching main scenario paths, as in Telltale or Quantic Dream games, it is important to understand the philosophical structure of the game.
In game theory, this is called "Morton's Fork": You choose two different paths, but they both lead to the same main corridor. Let's discuss all the choices in the game and what they actually affect:
| Decision / Choice Point | Option 1 | Option 2 | Real Result and Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green Tower Documents (Part 2) | Read and Burn Documents (Firestarter) | Read and Release Documents (Cold Case) | Only the trophy earned changes; The flow of the story does not change, it determines James' conscientious tone. |
| Icarus Bar Case (Part 4) | Steal the 30 Year Old Whiskey (Old Fashioned) | Leave the Whiskey in the Safe | If you buy whiskey, you can drink it in the car and relax; It provides atmospheric dialogue and performance. |
| Communication Tone with Sara (Game Length) | Honest, Compassionate and Open | Sarcastic, Rude and Aloof | It changes Sara's perspective on James and the radio jokes between them; but Sara stays with James anyway. |
| Sealing the Redroom Door (Chapter 7) | Lock and Seal Doors | Leave the Doors Open | He hides the scene of the massacre from the eyes of the organization; Philosophically, it postpones the resurrection of the elites but does not disrupt the mainstream. |
| Old Museum Evidence Decision (Chapter 9) | "Green was behind it all" | "The murderer is behind it all" | THE MOST CRITICAL CHOICE OF THE GAME. Choosing the first one opens the way to the Good Ending. Choosing the latter locks you into the Bad Ending for sure! |
| Central Park Final Confrontation (Episode 11) | Throw Weapon (Throw Weapon) | Shoot / Fight (Shoot/Fight) | The first option includes James' honorable death and peace (Good Ending); The second option involves being shot and thrown into the Memory Bank (Bad Ending). |
As you can see, the filmmakers have kept the detective strands of the story tight. Your choices won't save the world; your choices can only save James Karra's soul or condemn him to eternal darkness.
EPISODE 8: HIDDEN DETAILS, EASTER EGGS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Nobody Wants to Die is filled with subtle dark humor and nostalgic easter eggs nestled beneath the surface murder mystery:
- "The Game" (Boxing with the Neighbor in the Shower):
When James enters the decontamination booth in his apartment, he engages in an imaginary boxing match through the walls with his neighbor next door. When you correctly choose timed dialogues such as "Left pole!", "Bend over and uppercut from below!", "Forearm to length!", he knocks out his neighbor and this achievement is unlocked. This scene is the most endearing moment where human warmth leaks through small cracks in such a bleak world.
- "Chicken of Justice":
By sequentially turning certain lamps on and off in the Old Museum section, a secret curtain in the auditorium opens, behind which is an Art-Deco chicken statue illuminated by spotlights. It's a surreal moment in which the developers poke fun at detective clichés.
- "Ray of Light" (Saving the Broken Tree):
On the second apartment visit, before Hestia's synchronization test, this achievement is earned if you pick up the tree in the small terrarium that fell and broke in the kitchen and place it back on the stand. In an age where trees and greenery are disappearing, this small gesture represents the hope that still lives within James.
- "Restless Hands" (Mysteries of the Flying Car):
At the very beginning of the game, before opening the door of James' police car, you need to interact with the 7 objects inside the vehicle (headset, Ambrosia pills, service gun, liquor bottle, newspaper, brochure, baseball figurine) one by one.
EPISODE 9: LAST WORD WITH KLING DIGITAL: THE VALUE OF DEATH AND HUMAN Dignity
Yes, dear friends... If you have come this far, it means that James Karra and I looked down from the skyscrapers of 2329 New York and into that bottomless darkness together.
So what will we get out of this whole story? What was Nobody Wants to Die trying to tell us?
Do you remember the famous graduation speech that Steve Jobs gave at Stanford University in 2005? Jobs said:
"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. Yet death is the ultimate destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that's as it should be, because Death is quite possibly Life's single greatest invention. It is Life's agent of change."
This gloomy masterpiece by Critical Hit Games takes Jobs' words 300 years later and proves it in reverse.
If you eliminate death; You destroy the value of love. Because being able to love someone "until death do us part" gets strength from the fact that life is limited.
If you turn death into a subscription system; You turn the human body into a fleet of car rental companies. You build a nightmare where the rich live for hundreds of years and become tyrants, while the poor sell their youth and try to breathe in old bodies.
And most importantly; If you push the biological limits of the human brain and put eternity on your shoulder like a sack, your soul will be crushed under that weight, crack and go crazy.
Nobody Wants to Die whispers to us:
The real tragedy is not that we will die one day. The real tragedy is forgetting that one day we will die and spending the only life we have with the rules written by others, in rented bodies and by rotting our souls.
James Karra didn't lose when he jumped off that skyscraper. James Karra won as the only free person in that system who chose death.
